…in the way of crisis to everybody and the way we handle crisis will ultimately define us. Our actions also will influence our families and ultimately, the world. For Charles and Jennie Machado, the defining moment came when their only son, Michael, was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure on August 8, 2013.
With extraordinary vision, the Machado’s worked through insurance and medical red tape to advocate for their son. Many patients wait 5-8 years for transplant, but Michael received a living donation in less than seven months. After this success there was tremendous joy, but a dark cloud still hovered as the family thought about the friends they had made – those still on a waiting list.
Their vision and their dream of a better life for thousands of people started a Foundation where this would be possible. Unable to leave others behind, the Machado’s are using their talent, work ethic and contacts to make a change. Their voice is for the 14 people who die each day waiting for a kidney transplant.
They continue to advocate for the 100,000 patients who are lost in a system that is broken. And they ask for your help.
